I have been a runner for many years. I first started running at Hutt Valley Harriers in 1977 at the age of 14. Hutt Valley Harriers was based at Naenae (my home village, well not quite a village!), Lower Hutt, just a few miles from Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Hutt Valley Harriers is famous for it's bright orange running vest (singlet - NZ translation!) and for Jono Wyatt, multiple world mountain running champion, as well as many other famous people (who I will probably mention within some of my posts as I reflect upon the past). During the 80's I got into multisport, then cycling, before becoming an Ironman in the 90's. Then I discovered trail marathons in 2001, and finally became an Ultra Runner in 2008. I am now 'addicted', having completed nine Ultras as I start this blog in March 2010. Hopefully through this blog I will be able to share some of my experiences, to assist others in their Ultra preparations and performances.
